Job Title:  Resident Support Staff Lead

  • Full Time and Part time available

  • Non-Exempt, Hourly, up to 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 1:30 pm - 10 pm

Salary Range:  $16.48 - $20.00 per hour

Reports to:  Facility & Resident Support Manager

Work Location:  Homeless Shelter, Beaverton, OR

The Good Neighbor Center serves families experiencing housing insecurity with empathy and equity.  The GNC team provides a safe environment and needed resources while assisting in finding permanent housing and stability. GNC serves nine families at a time, with an average house of 30 people or more.

The Position

Resident Support Staff interact daily with shelter residents, conduct intakes, dispense medicines, facilitate weekly resident meetings, enforce rules and chore assignments, conduct room inspections, resolve conflicts, and do general problem solving with residents. This position may require on-call work, and a flexible or rotating work schedule when other staff needs coverage.  

Major Responsibilities and Duties


  • Conduct shelter prescreens, including background checks on potential new residents

  • Conduct shelter intakes, including drug tests and lice checks, and new resident orientation 

  • Maintain shelter waitlist 

  • Enforce shelter guidelines in accordance with detailed procedures

  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving with shelter residents

  • Provide detailed documentation of all meaningful interactions with residents, including critical incidents 

  • Weekly inspection of residents’ rooms and chore completion 

  • Clean and prepare rooms prior to the arrival of new residents

  • Distribute medication in accordance with physician orders and GNC policies and procedures 

  • Lead the weekly house meeting


  • Train overnight hosts and other volunteers on procedures for assisting in the shelter 

  • Interface with donors in a heavy traffic area, accepting monetary and other donations


  • General office duties, such as answering phones, copying, faxing, filing, etc.

  • Support the goals of the organization in a team-oriented environment

  • Attend all training, including CPR, first aid, trauma-informed care, harm reduction, de-escalation, as well as other training for health, trust, safety, and belonging

  • Train new part-time RSS team members

  • Attend RSS meetings twice a month

  • Attend staff meetings once a week

Qualifications (Preferred):

  • High School Diploma and one year of related experience 

  • Knowledge of emergency services, homeless services, housing or related social services, and child development

  • Good listening and interpersonal skills

  • Spanish speaking skills are highly desirable

  • Problem-solving skills, particularly in emergency situations

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to utilize basic computer software (Word, Excel, etc)

  • Experience facilitating meetings with adults

  • Ability to deal with volunteers and the public
