Child Care Provider, Good Neighbor Center

Job Title:  Child Care Provider

  • Part-time, Non-exempt, Hourly, 30-hours per week. Monday-Friday with some evenings/weekends

Reports to:  Program Manager

Salary Range:  $17.50 per hour

Work Location:  Homeless Shelter, Beaverton, OR

The Good Neighbor Center serves families experiencing housing insecurity with empathy and equity.  The GNC team provides a safe environment and needed resources while assisting in finding permanent housing and stability. GNC serves nine families at a time, with an average house of 30 people or more.


The Position

Responsibilities include taking care of children while parents are working or looking for work, early childhood development, and working with the parents to make sure the children are well cared for. The position will also be responsible for helping with homework and summer school programs when needed. Schedule each week will be coordinated with the Program Manager. The working environment includes children of all ages and their parents in a homeless shelter. 


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Care of children with a variety of ages

  • Keep detailed records of program participation and accomplishments

  • Maintain an inventory of educational and summer school supplies and equipment

  • Assist with Holiday Adopt-A-Family program for shelter families

  • Partner with outside organizations to develop programs for children and families

  • Support the goals of the organization in a team-oriented environment


Younger than School-Age:

  • Provide childcare when needed so that parents can look for or go to work

  • Teach curriculum for early childhood education

  • Coordinate with Community Action Early Childhood Education Programming (Headstart)


School-Age:

  • Provide students with age-appropriate school supplies and clothing where possible

  • Conduct Homework Club for school-age children during the school year when needed

  • Communicate with the school district and parents about student progress when needed

  • Individual tutoring of students when possible


Qualifications (Required):

  • Associates degree and one year of related work experience or three years of related work experience  

  • Experience working with a variety of ages of children in various settings

  • Experience in homeless services, housing, or related social services 

  • Computer skills, including knowledge of Excel and Word

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with children as well as adults

  • Experience and desire to work with multi-cultural/religious/ethnic populations

  • Knowledge of education resources and school systems

  • Ability to communicate and articulate with children as well as adults

  • All new hires must pass a pre-employment drug test and criminal background check 


Qualifications (Preferred):

  • Preference may be given to a Spanish language speaker
